Commodore lnsurance Services
Commodore lnsurance Services, Inc. is a California corporation that operates as a program manager and wholesaler. Commodore was established in 1990 and during that time has established an expertise in the production and underwriting of insurance products for small independently owned businesses. Commodore operates from two offices, its home office located in Emeryville, California,
and a branch office located in Fresno, California. The Emeryville office operates as a program manager for contractor related business and small to medium size retail and restaurant establishments. In addition, the Emeryville office has an expanding wholesale operation that offers a full line of products. The Fresno office, which specializes in workers compensation business, was started in January 2002.
The Emeryville Office
As indicated above, the Emeryville office of Commodore produces and underwrites two separate programs: artisan contractors and a business owner's policy (BOP).
The Artisan Contractor Program is designed specifically for small to medium size contractors. Business is produced through a network of 100 independent agents and brokers located throughout California, Nevada and Washington. Commodore has developed a proprietary underwriting system that allows us to efficiently manage a large volume of accounts. Brokers have the ability to generate accurate quotations in their offices and service accounts through our online accounts portal.
We limit our production sources to brokers that specialize in contractors business. We are convinced that our approach provides us the opportunity to assemble a book of business that is superior in its underwriting quality. In addition to our producers we have been very fortunate in attracting quality employees. Our underwriting executives have significant insurance experience and have underwritten and managed our contractor book for the last 10 years.
The BOP Program provides commercial insurance to small and medium sized independent businesses. Our target markets are small business restaurants, retail, and office risks Commodore produces and underwrites the program on behalf of Topa Insurance Company of Los Angeles.
Like the contractors division, Commodore has a very professional and seasoned BOP underwriting department. Our lead underwriters have extensive insurance and underwriting experience, and have been instrumental in the development and success of the BOP program.
Commodore's Wholesale Division provides markets for the hard to place business including larger contractors, manufactures and apartments complexes. We can provide a full range of coverage including casualty, property (including earthquake and flood), excess and errors & omission.
The Fresno Office
The Fresno office specializes in providing workers compensation as a wholesale broker. They currently manage a contractors program for the small to medium contractors (minimum $20,000 EAP) and a roofers program (minimum $250,000 EAP). They also have underwriting authority to write the small, middle market accounts. Commodore is fortunate to have Virgil Anderson managing our workers compensation operations in our Fresno office. Virgil has an excess 30 years of insurance experience, almost all in the workers compensation field. He has built a very competent staff, who are able to help with almost any risk placement. |
